EOC Week 6: Illicit

This is an interesting topic for me because there are times when I believe the media puts out more than it knows about and the government allows it too, just to try to intimidate the population into doing the right thing.  I have minimal experience with the illicit trade in our world, but the subject reminds me of a story one of my instructors at United Airlines told our class. She explains there is this lady in the market in Rio De Janeiro, who is walking through the market with her baby in a stroller. She turns to the side to inspect a product and when she turns back her baby is gone. She begins screaming for help and all the locals try to convince her to go to the airport right away. Finally the police arrive and drive the woman to the airport. There they have arrested the kidnapper but the baby has been killed and hollowed out for smuggling drugs onto the plane.  Up until we discussed this in class I took, I took it as a possibility, however I researched the story and found it has been a popular urban myth since the early 70’s. I’m glad to hear no babies have been found this way, but I’ve been disappointed that I believed someone’s lie for so long, about something so important.

EOC Week 5: Lawyers Looking for Fame

I’m fairly sure I covered this in a previous blog, but that’s ok.  I really understand that everybody wants to be famous one way or another. However, I do not like and feel it’s a shame that lawyers go out of their way to profit on other peoples problems.  I feel that “ambulance chasers” should be banned and kept from television and maybe advertising for people that can or are really there to help the public should become more prevalent.  The most disturbing (albeit funny) representation I’ve seen is the new Glen Lerner commercial where he’s literally depicting himself chasing and ambulance down the street. My roommate was like I might actually call him now, because at least he’s admitting to what he really is. I mean if it’s a criminal act, someone is a habitual or repeat offender, or even an amazing case that sets a new social standard for the public, then by all means make your money. For medical things, or lets sue this company because they tried to help make the world a better place and it didn’t work, don’t put it out there we don’t want to hear it.  Sure you’ll get every bottom feeder in the world that wants to make a quick buck, but for the working class that is usually at work all day. We don’t have time to be worrying about how many ambulances Mr. Glenn Lerner can chase down the highway. It frustrates me to no end and I really have almost given up watching TV.

EOC Week 2: What I think about lawyers

So this week I was asked to explain my feelings on lawyers, I have to say I have unfortunately had to seem them at work in person, when I was temporarily incarcerated once for a personal dispute.  The case was dismissed and it didn’t even go on my record, as my lawyer knew the judge and played golf with him every Tuesday.  It also helped that the person, I had my disagreement with was in jail on our court date for stalking my ex-wife and I.  I am thankful for the good lawyers that are there to protect people and prosecute wrong do-er’s and I don’t know much about the corporate side of the law so I cant say much about them.  I do know I am not fond of what I hear about lawyers that are known as “ambulance chasers” or the ones that are there to fill their pockets and damn the consequences. I so far have had a solitary decent experience with a lawyer, and I have to say I don’t know any personally or professionally at all anymore.  I know I went to speak with a bankruptcy lawyer once, and he wanted a five hundred dollar retainer to start looking at my case, that wasn’t even doing anything more with it, with my overall total being anywhere from that to a few thousand dollars.  I found a legal assistant that did the same work for quite a few people I know for just two hundred dollars then another two hundred to file it with the state.  Unfortunately even now that is beyond my budget, so I’m still struggling on but at least I’m more hopeful now, four hundred dollars will hopefully be more easily attainable soon. Thanks for coming by. Have a good week.

week 1 EOC About Me

As a photographer my professional experience so far has been limited to the last six months, prior to that most of my photography was amateur, personal work.  I have been interested in photography since I was twelve years old, my aunt was a military photographer and always amazed me with images from airshows and distant places that she had been to. I am good at portraiture and fashion type photography, however even though I intend to improve there, they are not the discipline of photography I intend to follow for my career.  I want to be more of a travel photographer, with intentions of someday working for National Geographic or the Travel Channel.   I tend to see and produce images that are always soft and beautiful. I’m now looking to produce images that are a little more edgy and exciting, and possibly even a little dark.  That usually throws people off a bit, so I will explain, I’ve decided to use the moniker Gemini Photos for my business, and it wasn’t just because I am a Gemini, but also because I want to be able to show some of the light and the darkness in the world that I have seen.  I have been shooting personally as an amateur for approximately seven years. Thank you.
